This trip, I learned that humans need bring many things to stay safe in the mountains. At Marco Polo Airport, my assistant had weighed their carry-on bag and was quite proud that the bag was at ~11kg. I’m glad I only need my travel hat. Humans need layers for their head and their bodies (?!)

My assistant thought it would have been smart to just bring carry-on and purchase what we couldn’t bring (pocket knife, hiking poles) in Cortina, since airport travel was a mess, with many stories of luggage being lost in transit. This was how that actually played out.

What was used

What was not used
Items that were not used, but I would still bring:
- First aid kit
- Compass
- Lighter
- Multi-tool
- Pee cloth
Items that were not used, and I wouldn’t bring the next time:
- Laundry clips – we ended up hanging the clothing inside our room, so these clips were actually not needed.
Packing Approach
For the trek, I packed heaviest items on the bottom, closer to the back of the bag, with lighter items and things I may need near the top.
For the flight, I wore my boots and the thicker layers. For the flight back, I checked in the new equipment we got, along with some of the heavier items.
